one day, it rained on the sunflower. at first, the sunflower was sad, because she wanted to see the sun. but as her roots sucked up the water, her thirst was quenched and she forgave the momentary absence of the sun.
but the rain continued to fall, until her roots swelled and the water inside them grew stagnant, and they began to rot.
the sunflower felt herself becoming weaker and weaker. but just in time, the sun came out from behind the clouds and shone down on her.
the extra water evaporated, and the sunflower was strong again. stronger, even, because she had gone through an ordeal and come out whole.
she said, “thank you, sun.”
