the tortoise wandered through the dark woods, looking for features he recognized, looking for a path back to the village, and most importantly, looking for his wife.
he wondered to himself, “what if i never find my way out? what if i never find my village? what if i never find my wife? do these things matter anymore, if they are forever lost? or do they matter because i keep them in my memory? so long as i do not find myself, my wife is not lost, she is not. and if she is not, then why am i looking for her?”
while he was thinking, he walked right past his wife, who exclaimed, “tortoise!”
he turned around and saw her and his eyes alit with happiness.
“i thought you didn’t exist!” he exclaimed.
